ECC: Life Reflected (20,22,25 June 2017)

The ECC announces auditions for …
Something a little different

Life Reflected will be an evening of poetry readings, devised and staged by Malinda Coleman.  The poems chosen will revolve around big life themes, and will include both old favourites and new discoveries.

Malinda would ideally like six readers: three couples of three age-groups: young (20s-30s) adults, middle-aged, and the pre-old …  Everyone auditioning is invited to bring along a favourite shortish poem, but this is not obligatory.

Auditions will take place at the Warehouse on 20 & 22 June at 19.30; and 25 June at 14.00.

Performances within the period November 5 -18 2017 (possibly not the full 5 performances per week).

For further information about this project, you can e-mail Malinda at malinda_coleman@hotmail.com

ITG: Waiting for Godot (6-7,10-14th Oct 2017)

Warehouse Studio Theatre

Director: Tim Myers

ALL performances are now SOLD OUT.
The waiting list is over-subscribed, there is no point adding more names. Sorry!

All is not lost…not yet at least…

People get delayed at work, a babysitter cancels, or ticket holders arrive late because they strangely expect they will find parking but don’t (parking is nearly impossible in the area).

You can turn up at the theatre, doors open at 7:30pm, you can wait in the bar area, and any seats not taken by curtain up (we don’t actually have a curtain!) will be reallocated. No promises, but if you don’t try, you won’t see it, and that’ll be that.

ECC: Life reflected (9-18 Nov 2017)

The ECC’s first production for the 2017-2018 season will be something a little different.

LIFE REFLECTED is an evening of poetry staged and directed by Malinda Coleman

9-11 and 16-18 November 2017 at 8pm
The Warehouse Studio Theatre, Rue Waelhem 69, 1030 Schaerbeek

Tickets:  €15 from https://thelittleboxoffice.com/ecc

Malinda Coleman writes: Poetry offers us the pleasure of language played and experimented with, but also can show us things about our experiences that make us feel and understand them differently, more intensely. Inspired by the Shakespearean “seven ages of man”, this collection traces our lives from the beginning to the beginning of the end … encompassing childhood, romance and coupling, parenthood, the challenges of our workaday lives, and the experiences that come along later in life.  The poems I have chosen are from both old familiar authors and many unknown contemporary poets.

It sounds serious! But expect to be surprised …I have been lucky to find an exciting group of readers, relative newcomers Agathe Osinski and James Hogan, combined with favourite familiars: Janet Middleton, Liz Ross, David Steen and Mark Prescott. First rehearsals designed to whittle down the long list of poems I compiled have already shown us something of the delight and pleasure this evening will provide.

ECC: The Father (23-27 October 2018)

ECC is proud to present The Father, written by Florian Zeller, translated by Christopher Hampton, and directed by Heli Pärna, at the Warehouse Studio Theatre from October 23-27, 2018.

What is actually going on in this flat? And who are these people coming in and out of it? And is it even his flat or is he in someone else’s home? And if so, how did he get here?

According to the author, Florian Zeller, The Father is a puzzle with a missing piece and no one ever knows which piece it is”. The protagonist, André who is living with his adult daughter Anne, is looking for people to tell him the truth in an ever changing world while trying to make sense of his environment despite the reigning chaos around him. This play is a glimpse into the world of someone with dementia – an illness that leads quite a silent existence, perhaps because many people think, and even more so, hope, that it will never affect them.

A €2 donation will be made to Alzheimer Europe Foundation from each ticket sold. You can visit their website to learn more about the work and research that they do www.alzheimer-europe.org

Tickets are €15 and are available from www.thelittleboxoffice.com/ecc

BLOC: Oklahoma! (22-25 November 2018)

Cultural Center, Auderghem.
Stage Director – Marie Rousseaux, Music Director – Steven De Mesmaeker.

The musical Oklahoma!, set in Oklahoma territory in the early 1900s, tells the love stories between Curly and Laurey, Ado Annie and Will.
Curly, a cowboy, has problems showing his feelings for Laurey. Laurey, out of a matter of pride and stubbornness, in turn does not show Curly her true feelings, either. However, this makes Jud, her Aunt’s hired hand, feel that he has a chance with Laurey.
Ado Annie is torn between Will, a cowboy who has kind of promised to marry her, and Ali Hakim, a peddler and ladies’ man, who will only get married if forced to.

This iconic Rodgers and Hammerstein score of Oklahoma! inspired a new generation of Broadway musicals, pushing the boundaries of the genre. When it opened on Broadway in 1943, it changed the way modern audiences would appreciate musicals for the next 50 years. The show ran for an impressive five years and was immortalized by a Hollywood film version. The state of Oklahoma even took the title song to be the official anthem of the state, solidifying the show’s cultural impact.

For more information, see the BLOC website.

ATC: Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? (8-12 Oct 2019)

TICKETS 18€ – AVAILABLE NOW

Edward Albee’s cult classic invites us for a night cap with two couples in a small East Coast American university town. After a faculty party, Martha and George welcome newcomers Nick and Honey into their home, drawing the unwitting younger couple into their bitter and frustrated relationship.

Darkly comic right from the start, it only gets darker. David Benedict, writing for Variety, said this play “makes the complete works of Strindberg look like Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm.”

The third play of our 50th anniversary year, Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? will be staged exactly 50 years after the ATC opened its first season with it in October 1969.

PLEASE NOTE: This play’s start time will be 7:30 pm. Doors will open at 7:00 pm. Running time is estimated at three hours. There will be two brief intermissions.

ITG: Our Few and Evil Days (5-9 Nov 2019)

Tickets

Our Few and Evil Days is a play about a family whose apparently normal life in a Dublin suburb conceals a dark secret. Adult themes (16+ advised).

Nothing is quite as it seems.

The unexpected and awkward arrival of the daughter’s new boyfriend unleashes a series of confessions that cross social and personal boundaries.

Mark O’Rowe’s finely balanced script draws you in weaving  together the lives of these intricate characters as it explores the sadness, guilt, love and passion that form the relationships within this family.

Described as “Powerful, compelling and utterly beautiful, Our Few and Evil Days is unlike anything seen on The Abbey Stage in recent times”, when it was first performed there (starring Ciarán Hinds and Sinéad Cusack) as part of the Dublin Theatre Festival in 2014.

Tickets €18
