ECC: Dick Whittington (8-10 Jan 2016)

Following on from the successful productions of Jack & the Beanstalk in December 2013 and Aladdin in January 2015, the ECC is proud to present a brand new panto –Dick Whittington and His Magical Cat! This well-loved British tale is (very loosely!) based on the legends surrounding Richard Whittington (Lord Mayor of London from 1354-1423) and is told with humour and energy and promises to be great fun for all the family.

Dick Whittington leaves a country village with his cat, Tommy, to make his fortune in London, where the streets are paved with gold. When he arrives he finds, instead streets overrun by rats.

This launches Dick on an adventure that takes him from London to Brussels and beyond. Along the way, he meets the girl of his dreams, Alice, as well as Alderman Fitzgerald, Sarah the Cook, King Rat and many, many others, including you!

Bursting with humour, songs and magic, this show will delight young and old. Oh, yes it will!

Performances are on Friday 8 January (20:00), and Saturday and Sunday 9-10 January (13:30, 17:00), at the Auderghem Cultural Centre, Boulevard du Souverain 183, 1160 Brussels.

Tickets (€16 for adults, €12 for children) are available fromhttp://thelittleboxoffice.com/ec

ATC: Greek/English Improv (26 Jan)

Greek/English Improv Show with Bus Kai and The Ghost Sheep
Monday, January 26, 8pm (6 euro entry)
Le Cercle des Voyageurs (‘les caves’- downstairs)
19, Rue des Grands Carmes, 1000 Brussels (50m from the Manneken Pis)

After the roaring success of our English/Italian improv show with Imprevisti Su Misura, we decided to host another bilingual show, this time, for the Greek community of Brussels! The first half of the show will be in Greek (20:00) and the second half in English (21:15).

20:00 Bus Kai αυτοσχεδιάζουν;

This is a new piece of writing for the ITG. We look back, from very personal perspectives, over some of the key events of the 100 years which separate us from Easter 1916 and the proclamation of the Irish Republic.

Casting both a cold eye and a tender eye on Ireland…more accurately, lending an ear to the histories and herstories of how we got to where we are now.

We use the voices of Ireland to recount the personal tales which, taken together, tell us something truthful. We take a look at where we are now and how we got here.

Box Office now OPEN (if any tickets become available through cancellation the Box office site will be immediately updated.)

BSS: Twelfth Night (20-26 June 2016)

‘Twelfth Night’ by William Shakespeare
20st-26th of June 2016
Petit Varia Theatre, 154 Rue Gray, 1050 Bxl
TICKETS

Twins Viola and Sebastian are separated during a shipwreck off the coast of Illyria, each believing the other to be drowned. Viola disguises herself as a man for her own safety and enters the employment of Duke Orsino, with whom she swiftly falls in love. Orsino however seeks the love of the Countess Olivia and sends Viola to advance his suit. Olivia for her part immediately falls for this interesting young ‘man’. Thus Shakespeare sets in motion the classic love triangle of one of his most enduring and popular comedies.

Meanwhile Olivia’s disreputable uncle, Sir Toby Belch, has invited his drinking companion Sir Andrew Aguecheek to pursue his own suit to Olivia. The puritanical Malvolio, Olivia’s steward, also harbours designs on his mistress and wishes to see Sir Toby and his drunken friends sent packing. Toby, with the collusion of Maria, Olivia’s gentlewoman, and Feste the fool, plots Malvolio’s downfall.

The entirely unexpected arrival of Sebastian on the scene adds to the confusion, which descends into mayhem when Olivia meets him, mistakes him for his twin, and marries him.

Tartuffe (20 Sept – 1 Oct 2016)

Tartuffe: A New American Satire is an original adaptation of Molière’s masterful play about hypocrisy. It is written by Jake Brandman, directed by Jeremy Zeegers and produced by the American Theatre Company.

This romp of a comedy will be performed in September 2016 during the heat of the American presidential election. Any similarity with current events is attributable to the genius of Molière and the enduring nature of human flaws.

ETC: The Little Prince (9-20 November 2016)

ETCetera, together with Les Colyriques, a well known Brussels musical theatre company, presents its next musical production, The Little Prince, a “Magic Opera” based on the famous book by Antoine de St-Exupéry, “Le Petit Prince”. Rachel Portman and Nicholas Wright wrote the songs, music and lyrics.

The book and the opera put up themes of flying, friendship, foxes, faithfulness and flowers, with an array of amazing human and non-human characters, and an appeal that is at least as much to adults as to children.

Les Colyriques and ETCetera have assembled some wonderful actors and singers, including both an adults’ and a children’s chorus, and some brilliant soloists and musicians.

The singing is in English (with French surtitles), with some narrative passages taken from the original book in French (with English surtitles).

BLOC: A Christmas Carol (24-27 Nov 2016)

A Christmas Carol – the Musical
De Kam, Wezembeek-Oppem
24 – 27 November 2016 at the Auderghem Cultural Centre Theatre

Based on the classic by Charles Dickens, written in 1843, Alan Menken’s musical version of the story is true to the original. Grumpy miserly Ebenezer Scrooge will have nothing to do with Christmas as everybody else in London is preparing to celebrate. His late partner, the equally miserly Jacob Marley, appears to him as a mournful ghost and foretells of the visit of three ghosts who will try to reform Scrooge so that he doesn’t end up like Marley. Once shown the error of his ways, Scrooge finally realises that the future ahead is not one he wants and he makes amends. It’s a ghost story about redemption.

Box office already open at http://www.bloc-brussels.com/index.php/tickets.

ECC: Cinderella (13-15 Jan 2017)

Auderghem Cultural Centre,  Boulevard du Souverain 183, 1160 Brussels.
20:00, 13 January 2017
13:30 & 17:00, 14-15 January 2017
Following last year’s magnificent production of Dick Whittington and his Magical Cat, the ECC team are proud to present this year’s panto – Cinderella!
Come on down to Hardup Hall, to join Cinderella and her best friend Buttons! Cinderella always makes the best of everything, but her horrible stepmother and hideous stepsisters try to make sure she is as miserable as possible! And while Cinderella sweeps the floors of Hardup Hall, at the Royal Palace a certain Prince Charming dreams of finding someone who will love him for who he truly is…
Bringing the Prince and Cinderella into each other’s lives will take some real magic – so it’s lucky for all of us that Cinderella has a fairy godmother! But with two inept trainee fairies looking after things, get set for a whole lot of topsy-turvy silliness on the way to Cinderella’s happy ever after.
With enchanted pumpkins, sparkling slippers, toe-tapping songs and loads of fun, this brand-new production is sure to delight young and old alike. Oh yes it is!

Make-up Workshop (6-7 Feb 2016)

Make-up Workshop
The Studio Theatre
6 & 7 February 2016

The ECC is delighted that Malinda Coleman has offered to share her considerable make-up skills by leading a make-up workshop on the weekend of 6-7 February.

Malinda has not only undertaken running the make-up for a large number of productions (Ed: I am particularly grateful for her incredible transformation of Lyn Wainwright into an extremely old woman in Three Tall Women), but has also already mentored others in this art. Most recently Malinda passed on her knowledge to Bryony Ullyet who then undertook the make-up for our production of Tom and Viv: Bryony has since worked on productions for the BSS and ATC.

This workshop is for anyone who wishes to learn more about make-up techniques for the stage, whether they have previous experience or not. There will be a small charge to cover the cost of the materials used.

Please register your interest, or find out more about this workshop, by contacting ecco@ecc.theatreinbrussels.com

ECC: A Wilde Evening (16-20 May 2017)

The ECC will be staging two one-acts plays from 16-20 May at the Warehouse Studio Theatre, Rue Waelhem, 1030 Brussels. Tickets are available from http://thelittleboxoffice.com/ecc.

A Woman of No Importance (Oscar Wilde) – Directed by Conrad Toft

The ECC will be staging an abridged version of Oscar Wilde’s satire A Woman of No Importance here in Brussels from 16-20 May and at FEATS Frankfurt for one performance between 2 and 5 June. With his usual wit, Wilde takes us on an epic romp of Victorian high society exposing scandals and delivering his fine repartee at every opportunity.

The Impotence of Being Frank (Joe Wilde) – Directed by Hugh Dow

The Impotence of Being Frank is a short farce intended as a tribute to Oscar Wilde and Joe Orton, in which a tenacious detective manically – and ultimately successfully – tracks down the perpetrator of a crime that wasn’t committed. It is the first play by a highly renowned Brussels based biographer and academic, writing under the pseudonym of Joe Wilde. The play, originally written for the radio has never been performed before.

Slovak Theatre in London: Academy for Women (10 June 2017)

Joe and Lisa found a legal charitable Academy for Women to shelter young street prostitutes and strippers in Elko County, State Nevada. The Academy is the first place in the world where women get access to both, sex work and studies. What results can this peculiar programme produce? We invite you to take a turn in the street of shame, to look straight in glass windows, far behind smiles, underwear and naked skin of prostitutes.

The Slovak Theatre in London, who brought a very successful show to Brussels earlier this year are returning with another show, Academy for Women, in English at 20:00 on 10 June 2017 (and in Slovak at 20:00 on 9 June and 22:00 on 10 June).
