You’re 25 years old and about to leave everything – and everyone – you have ever known or loved. You are leaving for America tomorrow, a New World you only know from films, music, and a couple of rather annoying relatives. The only company you will have on the trip is your inner voice; a voice that can speak the truth in a way that your outer voice, sadly, can’t …
Philadelphia, Here I Come! is simultaneously set within the confines of the small fictional Irish town of Ballybeg and in the limitless universe that is the inner voice and mind of Gareth O’Donnell, a young man on the cusp of emigrating to Philadelphia. A classic tragicomedy that established Brian Friel’s reputation as an innovative playwright.
Welcome to an evening of laughter, sadness and recognition of what it is like to fly the nest.
